A Baby Shower

My very bestest friend, Marianne, is having a baby. Her second son. Due August 15th.
Right after she got pregnant and told me when her projected due date was, we nearly killed over. Baby Barfuss is due two days before my sons first birthday. It's so funny how the situation has panned out. Her baby shower was Saturday, July 19th. Last year, mine was Saturday, July 20th. She is seriously following the same exact timeline I was last year at this time. I kept telling her how awful being pregnant in the summer was/is. Boy, is she really feeling it!

Mare has had a difficult time getting pregnant and I could not be more excited for her to be welcoming another baby to her family. Conor J. is going to be a fantastic big brother and I'm so glad Ryker is going to have a buddy close in age to raise hell with later on.

We did a beer and diapers co-ed shower for her and Troy at their home in Pocatello. It was super relaxed; you bring the diapers, we supplied the booze and BBQ. She really wanted to have a s'mores bar, so I set up a cute little table with graham crackers, mallows, and different kinds of chocolate. Well, if any one recalls this last Saturday you will know that it was windy. Unfortunately, for safety sake, we didn't get to have a fire because we were worried we would light the house and neighbors house on fire!

Even if the party didn't go as planned, I couldn't be more excited to welcome this new baby to the clan - I already love him more than I can explain! Just a few more weeks and he'll be here - hopefully before or after Ryker's birthday. The joke is, Ryker will hate her if baby comes on his birthday :)

A Little Fishy

I mentioned in Ryker's 11 month old post how much he LOVES the water. He constantly makes his way to the bathroom, when the door is left open, to plays in the toilet water or hit the sides of the tub - letting us know he wants in it.

My mom bought him the sweetest little pool for Easter and it's finally been nice and hot enough that we've pulled it out. We'll fill it up, let it sit in the sun to warm up and then when he's ready to get it we put our pup-up canopy over it to shade him. If I let him, he would stay out there till he shriveled up like a little prune.

He's figured out now that when he leans on the side of the pool the water falls out the side and then he can splash in it, so we spend a lot of our time doing that :)

Here are a few pictures from his first time in the pool {7.6.2014}...

He can pee in his own pool if he wants :)

1st Annual Color Run 2014

Awhile ago I was at lower campus running an errand when I came across a flyer for the 1st Annual Color Run in Pocatello. I've heard about them and I've seen people run them and it seriously sparked my interest. I ask Hilairy (BFF) and Sadie (SIL) if they would be interested in running it with me and of course they were both in!

We had such a blast running it. Mind you, the most strenuous thing I've done in ages is give birth. I had zero training before I ran this on Saturday - I even got up Saturday morning around 6 a.m. and started stretching just because I was afraid I'd pull something... HA! I worried I wouldn't make it out alive! Surprisingly, I (WE) did really really well. It made me more aware that my respiratory fitness is not where it needs to be for a twenty something year old female. My body held up pretty dang well and I'm super excited about it. [Side note: I couldn't hardly move on Saturday and even today, Monday, I'm having a helluva time going up and down stairs!]

Years and years ago, probably 3-4 now, I ran a lot. And I mean, a lot. I loved it. Some things happened and I just stopped. Doing this color run made me realize how much I missed it. I really think I'm going to get back into it. I'm kind of excited about it actually!

Hilairy, Sadie and myself vowed that this will be a tradition, and hopefully we'll add on more people to our Prima Donna team next next year!

4th of July

We had a really nice, relaxing 4th. I insisted on taking Ryker to the parade in Pocatello, so we got up early and picked my mom up. I haven't been in ages, so I was use to the old parade route - up Center St. (you know the one I'm talking about).. Turns out, that's not the parade route anymore. Luckily so nice individual stopped to tell us we were about 3 blocks too far.

Once we did finally get to the right spot, I seriously couldn't believe all the people, it was crowded. We found us a decent spot by the road and close to the beginning so we could get out of there if we needed too.

Needless to say, I am a complete worrier about the sun and the heat, even though we had Ryker lubed up with SPF I worried about him getting overly hot and fried. So, we left about 45 minutes into the parade. We had parked near Buddy's and I haven't been in a while so we stopped for a quick lunch.

Later in the afternoon we had the Nelson's and my mom up to the house for a BBQ and we torched off a few fireworks. Ryk loved them! I was worried they would be too loud or bright, but he was trying to grab the sparks as they flew from the fountains and sparklers.

Here are some pictures!

I don't know what I like more about this picture...

Eleven Months

This one makes my big mommy heart ache...

31 days (less now) and my baby boy will be a year old. Where has the time gone? As much as I enjoy his spunky personality that he has now, I'm trying my hardest to hold on to my newborn infant.

Ryker Kay at 11 months you:

  • sprouted a bottom front (left side) tooth this morning (7/17)
  • now have 6 teeth total (4 on top and one other on the bottom that came in a few weeks ago)
  • love Red Vines and graham crackers
  • are still a booby monster (ha) - I worry you are never going to want to stop nursing, at night especially
  • are starting to furniture cruise a little bit
  • still don't show any signs of walking anytime soon - thank God!
  • are a crawling machine! Man, you are fast
  • are the best eater, and I'm not even kidding. There is nothing you don't love
  • do have your favorite foods though; chicken, potatoes, watermelon, blueberries, and black beans
  • are wearing 9 and 12 months clothes
  • still wear a size 3 diaper
  • probably weigh around 23 pounds - I say probably because you were wiggling on the bathroom scale
  • are such a water baby!!
  • squeal with delight whenever you find water; toilet water, dogs water (inside and outside), the bathtub, the kitchen sink..
  • have your very own baby swimming pool at home and at Grandma's and we can't hardly keep you out of it. You like to splash and splash
  • unfortunately you don't sleep through the night. Depending on your mood, you're up any where from 2-4 times a night. You're killing us son!
  • have started throwing fits. I want to laugh because it's so funny seeing you tense up and get all red in the face with your fists clenched
  • can say mom (pretty much everyone is mom), dad, and the occasion hi/hey, more, dog, cat, ba[ll], and something else I can't real right now
  • loved the fireworks on the 4th of July. You ever tried to grab the sparks as they dropped from the fountains and sparklers
  • went to your very first parade in Pocatello on the 4th of July - you didn't seem to mind it and would watch the floats as they past
  • like to crawl in our landscape rocks (or stand on them to get to the dog water) and I don't know how you do it barefooted. You have stronger feet than your sissy dad, that's for sure
  • enjoy sitting in front of the dryer and watching the clothes spin around, for a second anyway
  • have your favorite tunes or jams where you'll start bouncing too if you hear them - one of them being The Hotdog Song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  • can do a few of the hand gestures for Itsy Bitsy Spider - it's sooo cute!
  • are obsessed with the vacuum cleaner. You will follow me around trying to get your hands on it
  • are learning how to "clean" your face and tray after you eat with a wet wipe. You're not doing too bad actually. Then after you're done, you want to clean everyone else's face
  • have a ear piercing scream
  • are getting out of the stranger danger faze and now instead of giving skank faces to people, you give them your best cheesy grin and wave
  • are so so funny; you just do funny things. I can't explain it. Your personality is second to none :)
  • are ALL BOY - you're interested in trucks, rocks, dirt, tools, the lawn mower..
  • are your mother's pride and joy and your daddy's moon and stars. What we did to deserve you is beyond me, but I will never question why. Thank you for giving me a reason to strive to do my best, your daddy too. You are so loved I couldn't even put it into words. While I miss you being a tiny little newborn I am so excited to watch you grown into the little human that you are. My worst day with you, son, is better than the best day without you.
Happy 11 months, baby boy. We love you so.
