Six Months Photos

I posted a couple teaser photos from Ryker's 6 month photo shoot. I got the disk back last week and I'm so excited to share some other ones! Hope you enjoy!

As you can tell, he HATED these glasses. And I mean... hated.

He kept ripping parsley off that plant:)

Seven Months

Ryker Kay, at seven months you:

  • have officially found your 'boy parts'... and the fun begins
  • are so close to getting on all fours and staying up
  • are a blue eyed baby. They don't seem to change with the color of outfit you are wearing either
  • have figured out how to go in reverse by scooting
  • suck your thumb a little more than before, but you'd rather have your bink instead
  • made your first long car ride to Twin Falls to see your great aunt Dixie and uncle Ivan - you did awesome, with the exception of a mini hunger fit on the way there
  • take two 5oz bottles from your grandma's and have lunch (either a veggie/fruit or cereal) while I'm gone during the day
  • roll around to get places if scooting doesn't do the trick
  • take naps ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, just depends on your mood and what kind of day you've had
  • have even more hair than you did last month! It's still up to the jury on what color it will be
  • are rolling around more, belly-to-back and back-to-belly
  • make diaper changes a chore with all your moving around, something is always catching your eye and you roll to grab whatever it is
  • say "ma ma mam mama" and a little "da da dada da" even though I don't think you associate those sounds with mom and dad
  • are the best eater! You have ate everything we've given you; carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, squash, and rice cereal. We've even given you some roasted chicken, mashed potatoes banana
  • are still EBF
  • still wake 1-2 times a night to nurse, but there are nights when you sleep till 4am, just depends on you
  • love to give your puppies love, and even give grandma's kitty loves too
  • are a happy baby! Always giggling and smiling at people, even strangers
  • are now in size 3 diapers
  • are fascinated with the vacuum. You stare at it and you even let me put the sucker on your hands
  • are always getting complimented on what a GREAT baby you are - it's justification to what mom and dad have been saying since you were born :)
  • love to pull the cord to turn the light on at Grandma's house, you're so pleased with yourself
  • have a ticklish back
  • love to hold/eat diaper wipes.. I don't know if it's the cold or the taste, but I can give you one if you're fussing and you settle right down
  • still don't have teeth, but you've been teething a lot lately
  • love the bath. You stick your face in the water and suck on your washcloth
  • are outgrowing your 6mo clothes. We've had to pack some of the smaller outfits away and pull out some 9mo stuff. Tears..
  • amaze mommy and daddy every day - you are growing like a weed, you're smart and so silly. We still wonder what we did to deserve such an amazing baby. These have been the best 7 months we could have ever imagined! We love you sweet boy!

Ryk is a character, here are a couple silly pictures
I took while trying to get a good monthly one of
him and his giraffe

He was laughing - I think the hair tickled his nose :)

A Glimpse...

We had Ryker's 6 month photos taken by Uptown Photography again. Can I just say how much I love Jessamyn?! If you are in the market for family photos, consider this gal! She is so sweet and is so talented. You will not be disappointed! She has been so great with Ryk (she is the one who took our maternity and newborns) and has such a good eye for details.

It's hard to believe my newborn isn't such a newborn anymore.

I don't have them all back yet, but I couldn't resist sharing a few...

Sentimental with time

I'm sure I've said it 100 times before and I'll say it a 1,000 times more - time has seriously flown by. How is it that my newborn baby has been with us for half a year already? It's unreal. I find myself getting more and more sentimental as the weeks and months pass by.

We watch our little guy learn and grow everyday and I'm amazed at the determination he has for things Scott and I take for granted; like grabbing with both hands and giving it an immediate taste test, watching the movements in his little legs as he squeals in the tub.  He's even managed to find his thumb, Wednesday February 5th. He had been shoving his whole fist in his mouth for a few months, and then it went to just a couple fingers. But now, now it's the thumb. As awful as the habit is, it is so cute! I can't stand the thought of yanking his little finger outta his mouth. Hopefully it won't come back to haunt me in a few years!

Monday, February 3rd, Ryker started acting really fussy and stuffing everything he could get his hands on into his mouth, even our hands or shirts, and he would just bite down as hard as he could. We just wrote it off as teething and made sure to give him frozen washcloths (which he totally loves) and gave him some Tylenol before bed. Well Friday, it was so slow at work I just called it an early day and went to my mom's to hang out with her and Ryker. While I was there he was coughing. It's not out of the ordinary, as of late, that's how he'll get your attention. But it kept going on and on and sounded worse. That was just the beginning of everything. He's come down with a cold, equipped with congestion, a runny nose, cough, etc. The poor boy has been miserable and so tired. Over the weekend he got extra snuggles from Mom and Dad. I even stayed home with him on Monday, the 10th, just so I wouldn't have to drag him out in the elements. Sunday afternoon some time, Scott was holding him and he turned to look at dads face and coughed. Needless to say, daddy has picked up Ryk-baby's cold. I tried my best to stay hydrated and stay healthy, but it didn't work. I was sick the 15th-17th. And it even managed to linger around longer than that.

We've had small fights with teeth here and there, a few long nights, and a few screaming fits. Nothing that a little snuggle and Tylenol can't fix. Nothing has popped through yet, but you can sure tell when they are bothering him... Man, the kid has a set of lungs on him and refuses to sleep. I never fully understood "We were up all night with [a screaming/fussy] baby" until we were actually UP ALL NIGHT WITH A SCREAMING BABY. Luckily it's only been 3 nights since birth, and I can tell you exactly the nights and reasons. Basically, it puts life into perspective. I am so grateful Ryker is such a fantastic baby. I don't know how parents do it with colic-y babies. They have my deepest sympathy!

We've been putting him in his bouncy thing more and more lately; the kid loves it. He doesn't exactly bounce just yet, but he gets himself moving and just squeals. It's the cutest thing. He's so proud of himself. Like idiots, we didn't realize there were height settings till Scott started looking at it one day and noticed the '1, 2, 3'. He dropped it down to 1 and Ryk has been going to town. I guess that's what instructions are for, right?

As much as I love to maul the crap outta this kid, we also try to keep him on the floor a little more too. He's been scooting around, pushing himself backwards, and rolling around like a little rollie polly. He is growing so fast and it completely blows my mind how quickly he has changed.

Other than that, everything has been good for the Nelson family. I applied to Grad School a few weeks ago and was accepted, so I'll more than likely start my classes in the summer. I'm nervous and excited to get the ball rolling and graduate. There are some big changes about to happen in the department and I am worried for a number of reasons; new program director, possible merger of two programs, etc.. I would like to think everything will be alright and that I'm over reacting, but the politics of this place would blow your socks off. I'm praying things will hold out until I can finish my program and if possible get out before things get ugly. If not, I've considered changing positions or moving to a different department to work.

To close things up, here's a few pictures from recent happenings...

At the doctors office. Poor kid didn't know what he was in for :(
Mommy felt bad baby had to get poked, so as any girl would do,
I took him to do a little retail therapy. He LOVES these shades.
He just laughs and laughs

Right after his 6 month appointment, we started started rice cereal. I was a little stressed out about starting anything too soon and I also wanted to consult his pedi to make sure we gave him the right stuff to start out with. Lucky for us, the cereal has been a hit (except when it gets too cool) and he loves sweet potatoes! He also loves grabbing the spoon and biting it, blowing bubbles in whatever he's eating -  making a complete mess of himself and mom or dad!

He is such a calm, relaxed baby. Here he is modeling his plaid button down, or as we say
"I'm just like daddy!!"

Loves those toes!

A little documented fit throwing
These couple of shots were from Valentine's day. I made those wings and dressed him up as a little cupid. Thank you Pinterest for the photo opportunity!

Six (6) Months

Ryker Kay Nelson, at six months you:

  • are a screamer. Not the 'I'm going to get mad and scream'... but the 'I just like the sound of my own voice' scream. And it's hilarious
  • have become a thumb sucker to a certain extent
  • have improved so much on your hand-mouth-eye coordination. You grasp things so well with both hands, and then throw whatever it is. Or give it a good taste test
  • have started rice cereal at dinner and don't seem to mind it too much (2.20.14)
  • are still in size 2 diapers
  • are starting to not be such a puker. YAY!!!
  • are outgrowing your 6mo clothes. We've had to move you up to some 9mo things. Tears
  • are still EBF and I could not be prouder that we've made it 6 months
  • are going longer during the day without eating, every 3-4 hours, still taking a 4oz bottle of bm while with your grandma's
  • love to pet your puppy dogs (more like pull their hair)
  • caught your second cold around February 10th - thanks to your Grammy Sandy - then you got daddy and mommy sick
  • push yourself up and try to tuck your legs under you
  • have discovered your toes - and they are delicious, especially while getting a bum change
  • have so much fun splashing in the tub
  • have some hair! It's finally starting to thicken and darken a little - even though everyone seems to think you'll be blonde, I think it's dark
  • have fantastic blue eyes
  • start getting ready for bed at 7:30pm, and if we are one minute late on that, all hell breaks loose
  • get up 1-2 times a night still, and mommy is okay with that
  • give big, sloppy, wet kisses... that usually turn into you sucking on our faces
  • scratch eyes, necks, faces, chests - and it doesn't feel great, I'll be honest. But I think you're learning the concept of depth
  • turn yourself in circles and scoot yourself backwards
  • have the best laugh - it's turned into a full on giggle and you think everything is so funny
  • are great at sitting up on your own
  • have rolled over from tummy to back only a few times. You're just not interested in it
  • just started rolling from back to belly (2.27.14)
At your 6 month appoinment your stats are:
  • 17 pounds 8 ounces (49%)
  • 26.5 inches long (51%)
  • 17 in head (80%) hahaha!

You are such a good boy, and we really mean that. You still aren't much for crying unless you are hungry or really tired. Other than that, you just like to hang out and read books or play with toys all day. You are happy and healthy and that's what matters to mommy and daddy. You have been a complete joy to have in our lives and we are so blessed your sweet spirit is with us. There are days when I struggle to remember what life was like without you.

Happy 6 months sweet baby, we love you so.
